Diving into an Unusual Steam Game Trial: Controlling a Poop with the Goal to Reach the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is now live, and players have encountered numerous entertaining independent titles. However, one stands out for its quirky concept. Titled Unko Technica, this old-school styled jumping adventure features a character that is literally a piece of poop attempting to make its way to a toilet. For those curious, "Unko" means "poop."
Player controls is straightforward: press a single jump button. Throughout 150 levels, encounter boss fights and access a store to acquire customizations for your poop character.
Execute your movements precisely, since one mistake means starting over. Bounce using floating orbs to hurl the poop to new heights, traverse fragile platforms, and activate buttons to reveal new areas. Gather currency and use them on challenging stages where the action gets crazy.
Visually, the game features eye-catching stages and an amazing soundtrack. The simple graphics featuring morphing basic polygons may remind gamers of beloved games like Earthbound.
Although hard to name other games where you control a coiled turd, interactive entertainment frequently included fecal matter. For instance, in Death Stranding, players craft throwables from character waste. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize feces as soil enrichment. Unsurprisingly, fecal references is present heavily in Obsidian's role-playing game The Stick of Truth.
Despite its silly idea, Unko Technica has already earned significant recognition, including winning at Bandai Namco's GYAAR Studio in 2023. The demo is available currently on Steam, with the complete version planned to launch on computers in the fall.
