His lawyer entered the response acting as his counsel in a federal court in Alexandria, Virginia on Wednesday.
Patrick Fitzgerald announced he would attempt to have the legal matter terminated for various reasons including that his the accused, a critic of former President Trump, was being selectively prosecuted.
James Comey was formally accused shortly after Trump pressured his top legal official to take action against him.
Judicial Process
At the proceedings on Wednesday, Comey's lawyer the legal representative told the court they planned to submit multiple motions to throw out the legal matter before a legal hearing, arguing the legal action was vindictive and that a government lawyer was unlawfully assigned to assume control of the proceedings.
James Comey's proceedings was first managed by the original attorney, who resigned under pressure from Donald Trump after his investigation into another rival - the New York official - was unable to initiate prosecution.
Courtroom Atmosphere
Mr Comey came across in optimistic frame of mind as he entered the legal venue on mid-week, conversing with his lawyers and sharing humor. He was supported by his partner, Patrice Failor and offspring Maureen, a government attorney who the former government dismissed.
After listening to the court recite his legal protections and the dual charges against him in legal proceedings on Wednesday, the defendant was asked if he comprehended the accusations.
"Absolutely your honour. Thank you very much," he informed the proceedings.
Historical Information
James Comey was the head of the FBI from four years and was fired about a few months into Donald Trump's first administration as president. At the time, he was directing an examination into international campaign influence and whether there were any relationships between Moscow and the presidential campaign.
While in office, the director triggered a negative reaction from the Democratic party when he stated just immediately preceding the 2016 presidential election that he was probing presidential nominee Hillary Clinton's use of a non-governmental email account. Legal actions against Clinton were not filed, causing negative feedback from conservative politicians as well.
Current Allegations
The federal government claim the former director lied to US lawmakers during a congressional hearing in recent years when he was being interrogated about both the previous examination as well as the election interference investigation. They claim he misled the Senate by saying he had not authorized someone at the Federal Bureau of Investigation to leak to news outlets details about the agency probes.
Government lawyers also charge James Comey of "improperly attempting to affect, block and impede" the committee by making false statements to it.
Individual Responses
Via social media the former director published to his Instagram after he was accused, he said he was innocent and accused Trump of conducting himself like a "autocrat".
"Our household have been aware for considerable time that there are consequences to challenging Mr Trump," he commented. "We choose not to live on our bended knee."
"I am not guilty," he stated further. "Therefore proceed with a legal proceeding."
The charges against James Comey came after the former president posted on digital channels insisting on his chief prosecutor, Pam Bondi, charge Mr Comey and others.
