A person who contaminated candy with sedative and provided them to children at a summer camp in the area has confessed to sexual crimes against two children both nine and ten years old.
Jon Ruben was arrested after eight children and an older person fell ill at the facility in the summer month.
The 76-year-old, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he appeared at the judicial center on the end of the week.
Yet, he refused to admit one particular crime he was charged with, which was involving a nine-year-old boy.
The accused was kept in jail prior to a additional proceeding on late November.
'Treat game'
Mary Prior KC, presenting evidence, detailed the criminal behavior to the judicial body.
She said his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were staying at a youth camp which he operated.
The man played a "treat game" with the children, Mrs Prior stated, in which he would access the children's bedrooms when they were preparing to sleep and tell them to eat sweets "rapidly".
She told the court Ruben had engaged in this activity with the boys "repeatedly", and children had previously fallen ill the next day.
She explained the defendant had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the youngsters being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepchild had concerns in July 2025.
The legal representative added: "Recently" his stepchild had worries about what was going on, justifiably.
"They resolved" to examine in the individual's items."
The prosecutor stated items including baby oil, petroleum jelly and syringes were found, and his stepchild alerted the law enforcement about his concerns.
She said Ruben went on to conduct the "treat game" with six youngsters that night - July 26th - and they were all ill the subsequent day.
"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that time," she continued.
The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, had stated that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.
The prosecutor said the youngsters were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so the family member notified the law enforcement a second time.
She explained the man then conducted the "sweet game" in a space of five minors.
