The tournament joins the US and Aussie Opens in employing replay systems.
Video review technology are set to arrive at The Championships for the 2025 edition.
Players will gain the right to contest certain calls from the official, following the practice already in place at each of the US Open and the Australian Open.
This innovation is slated for use on Centre Court and the number one court throughout the tournament and on the other four featured courts when they are staging singles matches.
This move arrives only a season following the All England Club rolled out ELC, which terminated the longstanding tradition of line officials.
What Can Be Reviewed?
Players cannot to challenge the accuracy of the electronic line calling, but are allowed to ask for the umpire to re-examine specific situations, such as:
- Whether a tennis ball has bounced twice.
- Whether a ball made contact with an rival's racket or person on the way past.
- Potential interference at the conclusion of a point.
Importantly, there is an unlimited number on the number of reviews a player can ask for.
Case in Point
An illustrative example took place in Indian Wells last week, where Daniil Medvedev initiated the review system against his opponent.
Draper admitted it was a difficult call for the official, but believed his rival had "played the rules effectively."
Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a replay and determined Draper was responsible for hindrance, granting the point to Medvedev.
Wider Implementation
Video reviews are not new for major tournaments. The system has been in use at the US Open since 2023 and the Australian Open since 2025.
Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the women’s WTA Tour, and by next season the ATP circuit plans to have the system in place at every one of its tournaments.
Additional Innovations
A further change at Wimbledon 2025 involves the addition of graphical cues on scoreboards to complement the audio calls from the ELC system.
This solves instances where fans have occasionally been uncertain if a ball was in or out.
In other news, with precisely a century of days remaining until the start of the Championships, organizers have also revealed an expansion in daily attendance at the qualifying competition in Roehampton.
